FOSS Assessment Institute for Grades 3–6
Location: NSTA Area Conference, Charlotte, NC
Presenters: FOSS staff and consultants
Delta Education will host a one-day FOSS Institute in conjunction with each of the NSTA Area Conferences.
This institute will be for educators from districts
that have implemented FOSS for at least a year. The topic will be
using formative assessment to improve teaching and learning. The
focus will be on new assessment tools and strategies designed
specifically for FOSS modules grades 3–6. This Institute is designed
for FOSS experienced educators—lead teachers, administrators,
curriculum coordinators, professional developers, and university
methods instructors.

Join FOSS developers to learn how FOSS introduces the fundamental concepts in chemistry. We’ll investigate substances to learn about properties of matter, the particulate nature of matter, changes in matter, and energy interaction and transfer. Student books and course CD-ROMs will be distributed.

The ASK Project (Assessing Science Knowledge) has developed an assessment system for determining levels of student understanding of scientific ideas. We’ll introduce benchmark assessments for FOSS modules, grades 3–6, and the tools and strategies teachers use to analyze student work and plan next steps in instruction. Sample materials will be distributed.
